What’s the Difference Between G and G-GC?
Type G Cables from Omni Cable, Southwire, General Cable, Coleman Cable, and others are given this designation because each of their main conductors has a corresponding ground wire. Since the cable has four conductors, in other words, it will also have four ground wires of a smaller size.

The three-conductor cables in this line are known as G-GC cables, where the “GC” is an abbreviation for “ground check.” Rather than just have a ground wire for each main conductor, the have this additional ground check wire. Also, while both Type G and Type GGC cables are built with a rope lay stranding to allow for flexibility and an extended life, the latter variety has rubber fillers that are resistant to moisture wicking.

Important Features and Specifications
Both Type G and G-GC cable varieties are rated at a temperature of 90 Celsius in dry locations and 75 Celsius in wet environments. In addition, their jacket and conductor constructions give them a notable amount potential for flexibility, and their ability to resist solvents, sunlight, ozone, oils, and other sorts of wear-and-tear is superb. Aside from meeting FT-5 Flame Test and UL 1650 standards, these devices are also compliant with RoHS regulations.

These portable power cables are built with rope-lay stranded and bunched parts, as well as having premium grade, EPDM-insulated annealed copper conductors. An outer jacket made of CPE rubber includes printed text for easier cable identification.
