CMR Rated vs. CMP Rated
Two major categories of Thermostat Wire that OneStopBuy carries are CMR rated and CMP rated. The first, CMR rated (also referred to as CL2 or MPR), is utilized in riser, thermostat wiring, and control cabling applications. Its main construction consists of twisted pairs with overall shielding, insulation that is made of a foam polyethylene, overall shielding with a tinned copper drain wire, and overall jacketing made of a colored PVC material. Other features include conductors made of solid or stranded bare copper, Datalene insulation, and markings on the cable in a sequential manner to designate every couple of feet. CMR rated Thermostat Wire carries both CEC and NEC ratings.

CMP rated or CL3P Thermostat Wire, on the other hand, is a control cable variety that has met approvals to be used in plenum spaces, specifically with thermostat controls that encompass both floor to floor and access shafts which have no need for conduit. hough it has similar twisted pair and insulation features, CL3P wire includes a plenum-grade jacket made of a chloride-based material. This particular variety of thermostat wire has specialized smoke handling and lowered flame spread capabilities.
