We offer a comprehensive line of Thermocouple Wire products with stock in various warehouses across the country from manufacturers and suppliers like Continental Wire and Cable Inc., Miller Wire and Cable, TE Wire and Cable, Omni Cable, and Belden. With a PVC jacket and PVC insulation, as well as conductors made of solid thermocouple extension wire, these products are regularly used in thermocouple applications. Thermocouple cable is comprised of two conductors that are dissimilar and capable of forming electrical junctions at varied temperatures. Because of their properties, thermocouples and thermocouple wire are often used in temperature sensing applications. This wire in particular does the job of connecting thermocouple devices with control instrumentation.

With our site’s search feature that allows you to narrow products by various attributes, you can find the right thermocouple wire for your needs, according to criteria like size of gauge, number of pairs and conductors, type of shielding, and jacket color.

All thermocouple wire varieties offered through our site are available with ratings at 300 volts and temperature ratings that include 105, 200, and 482 degrees Celsius, with UL Type PLTC construction in shielded and unshielded options. The jacketing on this cable is made with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material that is uniquely resistant to flame. We carry this wire in 16 AWG and 20 AWG, with color options that include black, blue, purple, yellow, and brown.

One of the benefits of these wires is that their insulation material contains color coding for simpler identification of leads and tracer threads. It is typical that the negative lead, for example, will be colored red. Positive leads, on the other hand, will have the same color as the thermocouple device with which the wire is being used. If you need help in understanding the color coding configurations of such devices, our technical support staff is on-hand five days a week to answer any questions you might have.

While looking through our catalog, you may notice a number of different wire products that are suited for specific thermocouple wire varieties, such as Type EX, J, TX, and so forth. The explanation for these differences is that the wiring in each type contains differing combinations of metals, with each acronym or letter signifying the alloys used, whether they be chromel and constantan, iron and constantan, chromel and alumel, or others.

Another aspect of this wire to keep in mind deals with the decision over what thickness and length to use. In areas that are largely absent of electromagnetic interference, thermocouple wire that is less than 499 feet with 20 AWG thickness is sufficient. One of the most important considerations is looking at total loop resistance, the knowledge of which will help in keeping the signal from being overly affected by electrical noise. Certain alloys are intended for staying within particular, allowable levels of loop resistance.

A second, important characteristic to remember about thermocouple wire is that it needs to be out of the way of electromagnetic fields. This is because these wires themselves generates low-voltage signals that can cause issues if they are used near other power devices like motors, wires, and so on. It is typical to see thermocouple wire include specialized shielding or over-braiding to assist in cutting down on pick up of electrical noise.
