Selecting the Right Product
Wire and cable are used to transmit power, signal, and data in a variety of applications and environments. If you need assistance in determining the right product, just ask your OneStopBuy.com cable expert. Here are just a few of the criteria that must be evaluated when selecting the best solution:
Application – One of the best places to start in determining the right solution for your needs is to tell us how you will be using this product. From this, we can determine many of the criteria immediately.
Gauge - The size or gauge of the conductor is critical in determining how much power, measured in volts and amps, or data can be safely passed through the conductor. Too small of a conductor can result in overheating, low signal strength, or voltage loss. Knowing total length is also critical in determining the correct size of the conductor, which can experience voltage drop when run for long distances.
Stranding – Both the gauge of each wire strand and the number of strands will greatly influence flexibility and, on occasion, even the amperage rating of the conductor.
Materials - The material that the conductor, insulation, or jacket is made from can also determine which wire or cable is best suited for a particular application. This can affect the voltage rating, flexibility, temperature rating, flammability, conductance, environmental suitability, and many other variables.
Environments – Will the product be used in a residential, commercial, or harsh industrial environment? Does it need to be run in conduit, behind walls, in a ceiling plenum, buried in the ground, or in a tray? What temperatures will it be exposed to? 50 degrees Fahrenheit or 200 degrees Celsius? We have cables for all of these environments.
These are just a few of the factors that go into selecting the best product for your application. Let the experts help you by calling us at 1-877-633-5212 or send us an email at ProductSupport@onestopbuy.com
