For applications that make use of cable and wire in lighting fixtures, control and power circuity, and other categories of high wattage devices like sun lamps or units used in therapy, we carry SF-2, also known as motor lead and apparatus wires. These cables are specially constructed to endure environments with high temperatures and elements that could cause wear or abrasion. In particular, they are rated for accommodating applications up to 600 volts and 200 degrees Centigrade. Type SF-2 Lead Wire features conductors built from stranded, soft drawn tinned coated copper conductor, in accordance with ASTM standards B33, B8 and B173. Aside from this, their insulation is made of silicone rubber insulation and they include a braided fiberglass overall jacket filled with a compound that resists the effects of heat, flame, and moisture.

A second type of lead wire that we offer is Silicone Rubber Motor Lead Wire (SRML), a variety that has a conductor made of flexible, stranded tinned copper and a silicone rubber insulation. In addition to these features, its fiberglass braid jacket with a high temperature finish allows it to be effectively utilized in electrical equipment wiring where exposure to temperatures under 200 degrees Celsius occurs. These devices are also UL rated in accordance with the style standards 3231, 3127, 3069, and 3070.

Another lead wire, one with suitable insulation and dielectric properties, is ethylene-propylene diene elastomer (EPDM). This has greater resistance to cut-through than a material like silicone rubber does. The cross-linking chemical process through which EPDM is constructed produces a cable with good flexibility at temperatures ranging from -60 degrees to 150 degrees Celsius. It has good insulation and dielectric strength, as well as excellent abrasion resistance and mechanical properties. EPDM also has compatibility with the majority of varnishes.

If you’re looking for something that can handle slightly higher temperatures, Teflon-Glass-Glass-Teflon (TGGT) is another option we provide through companies like Harbour Industries, First Capital Wire and Cable, Radix, and Southwire. With ratings at 250 degree Celsius and up to 300 Volts, stranded or solid nickel-plated copper conductors, and a PTFE tape insulation construction that has a glass serve, this lead wire is built to stand up to more extreme conditions and repeated abuse. A fiberglass outer braid allows this cable type to be guarded against flexing and the potential damage and wear that can result from repeated mechanical usage. Moreover, TGGT wire is resistant to moisture and other pressures like pushback and fraying of braids.

The most durable lead wire in high temperature environments is MG wire, which is rated to 450 degrees C. It has a notable level of resistance to thermic conditions, chemicals, and flame, generally producing only minimal smoke.
