We carry a large selection of Speaker Cable from the manufacturer Belden and the distributor Omni Cable. With applications that are varied in scope. such as indoor and outdoor environments, plenum, halogen-free, direct burial, and Class 1 applications, these products are built to be utilized in many commercial and professional contexts. Belden’s Speaker Cable products have a virgin copper construction with Electrolytic Tough Pitch (ETP). Their line of Speaker Cable also includes direct burial products that have ultra-high purity (up to 99.995 percent). Oftentimes, this is a copper variety which is also referred to as oxygen-free (OFC).

Because these cables are built with soft drawn and annealed conductors, they are capable of being flexed without vulnerability to breaking. Their jackets are also easy to pull as well as strip, which consistently makes for a great deal of saved energy and time when it comes to installation, customization, and long-term usage.

Class 1 applications, which include audio amplifiers with power above one Kilowatt (kW), are one of the popular ones that make use of speaker cables. This is evident to anyone who has seen the text “Class 1 Wiring Shall Be Used” written on the terminals of these particular types of speakers. Anytime that audio is being utilized in 1 kW or higher applications, the outputs of speakers present a safety concern for those working in installation roles.

While installers and others have previously relied on industrial-grade cables or power wiring, Class 1 cables for speakers meet these needs in a much less expensive and more reliable manner. Because of their construction, such cables are able to consistently offer high levels of flexibility and accommodate the audio and visual needs of larger-sized venues.

Notable Features of Class 1 Cables
Class 1 speaker cables in particular can be selected in gauge sizes that include 6 AWG, 8 AWG, 10 AWG, 12 AWG, and 14 AWG.  The first two sizes, 6 AWG and 8 AWG, are among the most recent additions in Belden’s product line and are specially constructed to be used in 150 feet minimum runs with 1kW and higher amplifiers. These larger gauge sizes cut down on the amount of resistive loss experienced with such cables. Two choices of flexibility, standard and high, are also available from Belden, as well as varieties with waterblocked constructions.

Other Options Available from Belden and Omni

The design of all kinds of flat speaker cable is intended for reliably connecting speakers and their related receivers or power amplifiers. In addition, they can also be utilized internally for speaker wiring. Some other options available on our site from Belden Cable and Omni Cable include ETP, Parallel Zip ETP, Audio, Open Twisted ETP, ETP Twisted, Jacketed, and Low-Cap Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity (OFHC) speaker cables, as well as speaker connections and high-flexibility varieties for bi-amp and tri-amp configurations.

A great deal of these products are designed with the use of copper conductors, which have a high amount of conductivity. Audio cables with a copper construction work much like normal oxygen-free copper cables in a number of ways. OFHC speaker cables include twisting and jacketing which make them well suited for direct burial applications. Their jackets also have the advantage of being resistant to sunlight.

For more sophisticated speaker systems, an appropriate offering is High Flex Bi-Amp and Tri-Amp speaker cables, which come in gauges of 14 and 10 as well as constructions with plenum ratings and non-plenum ratings. These can often be vital in improving the quality of sound in the systems they serve.
