Homeowners expect much more from a home than just a place to sleep. It is a place where they like to entertain and to be entertained. Whether it is playing video games, watching a movie, listening to their favorite CD or having a party, it all boils down to enjoying their home.
Entertainment options like home theater systems are an important feature to consider when remodeling or home or building a new one, to help create the perfect ambiance.
A home theater system is truly the ultimate in home entertainment that gives a new meaning to TV viewing pleasure. From a simple, yet quality TV and surround sound system in your family room to an elaborate movie theater replica in a dedicated entertainment room, you can create a home theater experience with the perfect combination of lighting control and surround sound. |

Home Theater Checklist |
The Room
Any home theater room should be an enclosed, rectangular one with good space and not too much outside light coming in. |
The Power System
It is best to have a centralized connection point for all AC power, audio, video, home theater, and data connections. Use a Leviton Recessed Entertainment Box (R.E.B.) to manage all of your home theater electronics from a single location.
The TV
The TV Screen should be visible without outside glare. If you have a High-Definition TV, the connection should be clean and in accordance with building codes.
We recommend PowerBridge, which is a complete In-Wall Electrical Solution for HDTV installations. |
The Video Player
Especially if you own a High-Definition television, it's best to have a video player with HDMI output and 1080i upscaling. These features will give you an exceptional image quality. One of our Single-Disc JBL DVD Players by Leviton is a fantastic choice, in that it offers this as wells as playback of numerous disc formats, PAL-to-NTSC conversion for region-compatible playback, and complete audio component control. |
The Audio System
Whatever setup you use, it will all be connected to some kind of surround sound reciever.
The front speakers need to be spaced proportionally to the screen so that sound seems to be coming from the screen – not from the speakers. The rear speakers should be placed proportionally to the listening area to ensure accurate sound field reproduction.
Another helpful hint is to use a subwoofer. These give a boost to special effects like rumbling thunder or rocket launches.

The Lighting
Your home theater should have soft ambient light controlled by a dimmer. Leviton offers a number of options. When you start up a movie, turn the dimmer down to a preset level with merely the touch of a button. As a side note - completely dark rooms are not recommended because the high contrast of the light from the screen can easily strain eyes. |
